We have been using film to enrich the use of our whole class novel. We have found it useful to apply bookmarks to the DVD so that it is quick and easy to focus on a specific section of the film and review it easily as many times as you like.
I used the video ‘Wrong Landing’ from the GetITwrite blog (In News Clips). This was great for revision wth Y6. It is a funny cIip about a alien landing on Earth. I let them watch the film first. Then I let them watch it again and asked them to write as they watched it. I also had a try myself. We then shared examples of their writing. The children’s was much better than mine. Following this I reminded them what they were looking for to produce quality writing. Then I gave them a further 20 mins to re-write their work and improve what they had done. The children loved it and it motivated them to produce quality work.
This part of the course has provided us with greater insight into the advantages of using film and images within the classroom. Looking forward to trying some of the ideas presented to us back at school.
Thanks!

The info on films today was really inspiring!
We had fun, especially with the sound, so we’re sure the children would too! Would like to try downloading my own pictures to make sure I can do it.
A busy morning. A lot of ideas I can use in class.
